Do you really need job?

These days I had read an interesting article from Bulgarian author about “Olympic principle” in job searching. What the author means? – Many people have decide to apply for any vacant position just for imitate job hunting for somehow reasons. They have been sent many cover letters and CV only for amusement and without real desire to change their job. Some people just want to change something and the first think that they decide to change is their old job, but actually they don’t want to change it. However many people are not serious in job hunting and just participate in different application processes only to fill the form not with real plans. The author also says that this type of job seekers didn’t refuse to go out in interview but always refused the offers which received. These naggers will never find their dream job.
So what is the meaning of all this above?
At first you should ask your self:
“Do I really want a new job? “
“Why I want to leave my current job?”
“What I should expect from my new job?”
“What kind of job I will look for and what salary I could wait from this job?”
“Am I really prepared to sustain some financial problems when I leave my current?
If the response of all these questions is positive and you are confident in your final decision then you must start your job hunt.
I will try to give you a few little advices here but I am not sure that it will work. I am looking for new field since August 2007 and still not success so my advices couldn’t work. But this unsuccessful hunt might be related with the fact that I look for job abroad not in my country and this may be the main obstacle.
At first you should prepare more than one cover letter. In every one you will describe your different skills. As example you may have experience in contract management, civil engineering, CAD modeling, mysterious shopping or just baby sitting and you have decide to change your field of work then it is a good idea to have few CV and cover letters. When you apply for CAD designer you should enforce your CV in those fields. You must manage Cover letter to look like you are eager to apply for this job.
At second - it is a best for you to read advertise careful. What I mean sometimes you have seen add with something like “We need contractors….”. With modern methods in internet you could apply for a second just clicking two or three times with mouse and that is all. But you haven’t read the add careful and here in the end have something like “must have a very good French” or “need to have less than 10 years experience”. So in this situation HR manager will look in your resume for your French or 10 years experience and when don’t found it he or she just will delete your application. Of course you might expect call from them but this will not happened.
At third – sometimes it is a good idea to push up your recruitment process. Many of the people who work in the recruitment companies are overloaded and just forget about you when their clients reject your candidature. You may wait until the end of time for calling. This will not happen.

I want to apologize to the visitors here but the sites that I will describe below is a more closely to the engineering sectors and environmental sector. Unfortunately I can’t envelop all job hunt sites.

In the internet have many sites where you can see an open position and you may apply for it. There is a pages where you can meet you colleagues and meet new people where you could make new relations and again to find proper work. I will spare this kind of sites in three different groups: Job-hunt group, Relations groups and Corporate group.

Job-hunt group

These sites are totally orientated to job hunters. In these sites you be able to register your Curriculum Vitae and start your job search. Some of the sites have a good interface and you just can type your CV other sites are more ordinary made and you should attach your CV and sent the application in this way. Here the list of sites that I use and I endeavor to explain some of them features.

At first is Monster this is a most popular site in the world I think. When I started my job hunt this site was looking completely different. In the beginning of my search I saw that there is no option for different countries. In these times you able to search only in the continents like Europe, USA and Asia. Since 2008 year I think the site looks different if you enter to this one with extension .com you see the list of links where you can search and if you want you are able to search in the USA, Europe, Asia and many countries from this continents. But be careful it is a little fetch. What if you want to search in Norway for example? Just follow the links for Norway and …ooops if you not a Norwegian you can’t understand nothing. Everything is on this language and there is not option for change it to English or German. Sad but true. You may try to register yourself with Norwegian site of Monster but I am not sure what will be your successes as an example I am registered in the Finland site of the Monster from two month but with lack of success.
But what happens when you decide to register yourself to Monster. There is a possibility to save your resume, where you could add your education, completed courses, certificates, schools. Also you may add your work experience, current employer (with option for contact or not contact), preferable position, desired salary and benefits. For register yourself in Monster you must have a valid e-mail address, where you will receive activation code to start form filling in the main site.
I found some very interesting fact about registration when you register your name you receive an e-mail with activation code and with new name (actually the same as you had registered but with prefix ag_). The second interesting artifact I had found when I decide to register my CV in Finish branch of Monster. When I get to the http://my.monster.fi I whim to try what will happened if I decide to enter with my name (this one with prefix ag_) I found that it work here. So to continue registration on finish I just put the same words in same fields. And I had to forget in the Monster sites the password always must be digits and letter if you have the habit to use only one password for everything and this password is a only from digits my advice is to put one letter before them or behind them.

As a second I will recommend to use some of the local sites in your countries. Since 2007 I am a citizen of Europe and there is a good portal for mobility here. The main address is http://ec.europa.eu . When you reach the main site you will see the page with chouse of different languages. You are able to enter with this one which you prefer. This is a site which is made only for countries form EU and you are able to search new job only in European Union. Here you may found a section where is described different information about countries, still of live on their citizens, shops and other thinks like this. You can describe your possibilities and some employers could reach them. You also can upload simple video to describe yourself.
Next site where I put my resume was www.waterandwastewater.com – this is a site orientated to waste water treatment and I recommend it only for professionals who looks this kind of work. Here you could put a simple resume in the forum.

The next step is to register your CV in many sites as is possible as. Here some of mine favorites where you could find open positions. Many of them have an automated ‘job agent’ which can help you to find a proper job. How it works? Just flick through site and you will find it. Then you can start it simple – when you put the search phrases in it something like “waitress” or “project manager” or “welder”. The job agent will remember everything and when the next add appear in the site from employer the job agent will send you a letter for application.

Prepare yourself

Organize your job hunt.
1.At first you must start from simple thinks such as your computer. Prepare a new folder named something like “New Job” in this folder makes other folders CV – for your Curriculum Vitae, Cover_Letter folder will contain your cover letters, Application folder will be filled with your sent and received e-mails. In this Application folder I recommend to make two new folders “Sent” and “To Send”. What I mean – sometimes when you surf in the Internet – in the jobs sites you may have see the interesting ad but you may not have a time to read careful and prepare your documents. Then you just save it on the folder “To Send” and at the next free time to write cover letter and CV which meet the requirements of the position. In the folder “Sent” you could archive and place already sent – e-mails.
2.Make folder certificates – where you could store your scanned certificates and other documents like these. Sometimes some companies wait for you to send an ISO or CNC certificate. This is important if the position which you had applied require this.
3.Prepare a list of sent applications – you may have sent thousand e-mails and letters but only one job you can take. But in the time you apply for job I think the most important is to be in condition when you receive a positive answer. What is the meaning of this above – with simple words you should prepare a simple file where you can write your applications. You be able to create it on Excel/OOOCalk or Word/OOOWriter or just another text editor. When you have sent your applications letters you must can write on your file something like this:

Whit this method you always will know about your thousands application and when receive the interview e-mail you might remember about the circumstances about your candidature.
4.Write your own Curriculum Vitae – you may do this when just search through internet, for Europe Union the EC decide to introduce unique standard for CV writing – you could download from here (http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/europass/preview.action?locale_id=1) For other countries have other requirements and you should meet them when apply for that kind of position.
You should fill the form with your possibilities and all thinks that you can do. Your education language level and hobbies, also you should put e-mail, phone and address. There is a table where the language level was described so you must compare with it. Don’t lie in your CV sometimes this may bring problems it on you. Just imagine that you are lied you understand from C++ programmer and in the new job interview you have been asked for first three rows from any C program just for somehow. So what you will do then?
5.Write common or universal cover letter – it must sounds enthusiastic and you should look eager to start work ASAP. There are a many places where you could find good cover letters http://www.about.com is that kind of place. In this cover letter you should describe you experience and all you positions that you have been taking but not the reasons of leaving. You may include in it some little examples about your current work but at this entire letter shouldn’t be longer than one page.
6. Use a different from IE browser – use mozzila. In Mozzila have a very good plug-in which could help you when filling forms in the internet job sites. How it works – you have only one address, phone number, e-mail, mail, forename, surname and place of born. So you just fill them in this special plug-in and in the next time when you should put them somewhere just push the button and here it is! You save more than 5 minutes for form filling.
7.Decide what work you will look for. As an example you should have eyesight what you search. You might have gained a rich experience in marketing and management, so if you don’t want to change the field you should look for this type of positions.
